Recently, I have visited a customer to talk about Microsoft Enterprise Agreement; I have left with the idea that Microsoft Enterprise Agreement Subscription is more suitable. Since subscription method is not preferred in public sector too much; I was also not familiar with Microsoft EAS concept. I would like to define Enterprise Agreement (EA) first of all and I will give some recommendations about them.

Enterprise agreement (EA) is an agreement including a package containing required components for the end-user. This package has two types such as Professional and Enterprise.

Professional package:

  • Along with “Windows 7 Professional  + Software Assurance “ it is upgraded to Windows 7 Enterprise version.
  • Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010
  • Microsoft Core Client Access License (CAL) Suite

Enterprise package:

  • Along with “Windows 7 Professional + Software Assurance “ it is upgraded to Windows 7 Enterprise version.
  • Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010
  • Microsoft Enterprise Client Access License (CAL) Suite

Enterprise Agreement (EA) and Enterprise Agreement Subscription (EAS) are arranged for 3-years period and renewed. It is contracted as “licence price+ 3-years Software Assurance” at first purchase. Agreement amounts are divided into years. Besides the products contained in the packages, you may include any software within Microsoft product portfolio. Products included into the agreement except end-user packages cost lower price than OPEN agreement prices.

Differences between Enterprise Agreement Purchase (EA) and Subscription (EAS) are as follows; enterprise agreement purchase, as the name implies, is the contract in which product are purchased on behalf of corporates. At the end of the agreement, even the agreement is not renewed; these products are still owned by the corporate and can be used as long as wanted.  Enterprise Agreement Subscription (EAS) is a contract in which product use rights are terminated if agreement is not renewed at the end of the 3rd year. On the other hand, there is a possibility that used products for EAS can be purchased then contract is terminated (but out).

For example, if you want to add new-comer 50 users in enterprise agreement purchase (EA); you pay the total agreement amount lump sum according to the agreement year that you want to add in, this amount is not divided into years (for exp. If you want to add in the first year, you pay 3-years amount, if you want to add in the second year, you pay 2-years price).  On the other hand, products add/drop is easier in enterprise agreement subscription (EAS). Therefore, due to number of personnel and dynamic needs; Enterprise Agreement Subscription (EAS) is recommended for private sector. Enterprise Agreement may be more suitable for public sector where number of users remain generally constant.
