Today, value of information and access to correct information as soon as possible has become more critical aspects for the corporates. Songür expressed that standards have been set up for information protection. Songür “In the past, only backup issue was on the agenda, now disaster recovery services have been on the table due to developing technologies and increasing demand. Instead of recovering the information after an extraordinary event; they mandatorily switched to minimizing data losses and business continuity to provide uninterrupted service. Therefore, business continuity has become an essential concept for the corporates.”
Updating in Business Continuity
Songür mentioned that business continuity is not a management system that is established once and forgotten. He emphasized that business continuity should not be considered only as protection of IT infrastructure. Songür, “Business continuity is protection of critical sources, planning and conducting a series of operational and administrative activities to be done in case of an extraordinary event to attain business continuity. Hence, business continuity is not only IT managers’ task but also all other business units’ job. It is already known that infrastructure units on which information is moved are critical; it should be kept in mind that the units executing the job and creating the information are also quite important.” Business processes modifications should be updated in order to sustain business continuity; Songür said that plans should not stay on the paper and be tested periodically with respect to functionality.
Focusing on Corporate Needs Regardless of Trademark
Songür stated that as 4S Information Technologies, they perform due diligence analysis to define target point of the corporates in business continuity and corporate needs properly. He continued “During the analysis, we determine corporate functions, critical processes, user group that is affected by these processes and system sources interacting with the processes. We analyse the relationship between sources which are defined with the corporate team. We measure the impact of the sources on corporate business functions. Based on the analysis, we prepare a report stating the gaps between target point and existing condition. Each further investment is planned according to this study”
Songür touched independency from trademark and product. He said that solutions which will be complied with corporate structure and meet corporate needs should be recommended. A solution plan should be established according to tarteted continuity structure and necessities. Songür, “As per the submitted plan, installation and integration operations are taken over by our expert staff. Finally, solution application is tested. It is tested that if the system gives the expected results within the targeted period regularly.”
