Digitek Information Services

Maintenance services are one of the sub-services that carry most of the burden of IT sector. Digitek serves in maintenance service field and authorised service of HP. Digitek was founded in 2003 to perform 4S site activities and today in addition to 4S site activities, it performs solution and sales works that 4S cannot touch.

The public sector does not see the risk

Digitek Vice General Manager Burç Ertürk mentioned that there is a huge gap between private sector and public sector with respect to maintenance services and site services. Private sector is much more sensitive on million dollars’ worth investments. Ertürk underlined that the public sector underestimates maintenance risk, “Except some public institutions, generally speaking in the public sector, we can say that there is not any adopted maintenance culture. Public Tender Act considers maintenance and material in a same manner and the legislation is according to this. We have to divert the public sector towards companies that can provide qualified maintenance service. During recent years, maintenance prices have decreased significantly. If the market offers companies providing maintenance at low price, market goes this way. So it is not a correct direction. There are companies that only pay for device park literally in the maintenance.  Inherently, it is not possible to provide more at low price.”

Ertürk also assessed what should be taken care of in the public about maintenance, “During system tendering stage, guarantee periods should be increased. By this way, costs can be reduced for further maintenance tenders. Manufacturer companies should be included into the process. Manufacturer company also should do something about maintenance as well as the tender winner company.  Service level agreements should be flexible or shaped as per needs, so that costs can be lowered little bit more. For critical system, guarantee should be obtained from the manufacturer; for smaller systems guarantee should be obtained from competent business partners.”

80 thousand dollars from Digitek to education

Ertürk pointed out employment importance in maintenance services and classified into two groups such as system group and technical personnel group. Ertürk, “It is hard to find an employee that can perform more than one subject simultaneously. Although CV’s are very qualified; we observe that qualifications do not meet the requirements after employing such candidate. From the technical sub-personnel point of view, I do not see any employee problem in the sector.”

Ertürk said that Digitek emphasizes on trainings and they have budgeted 80 thousand dollars for education this year. Trainings are revised based on education needs and developments.

Restructuring will cover 22 regions

Ertürk said that they are planning to move mobile teams into office environment until the end of the year, he gave information about restructuring in site services: “We have our own mobile personnel at site in Adana, Samsun, Antalya, İzmir, İstanbul and Trabzon.  They can response the calls from our call center with hardware and spare parts that they have with them. We were quite successful with this structure. We plan to move this structure into the office until the end of the year and we aim at increasing our locations to 22.”
