We were together with 4S Information Technologies team and General Manager Melih Akyılmaz who hit the road from Ankara via High-Speed Train to “Career and New Technologies in IT” that we hosted with Anadolu University in Eskişehir. We have talked about changes in 4S Information Technologies and other subjects related with the sector.
Akyılmaz said that 4S has revised its structure towards solutions, business technologies and information recently in parallel to recent changes. He stated that they are passing through a long-term investment process. Akyılmaz summarized this revision period as: “We tried to move this structure to international side. We have opened two offices in Dubai and London. We have widespreaded in Middle East. We have focused on Telecom and finance sectors and developed ourselves in those fields. We have started to convey our knowledge to abroad.”
We speak about solution not product anymore
Akyılmaz mentioned that Turkish companies complain about that market is not growing. He said that the reason is that integrator companies do not execute their tasks sufficiently. He said that: “Because they cannot carry the technologies that can produce solutions to their customers. We tried to detect the gap here. We saw that solutions go to the customers as document. We realized that customers need an environment where they can see and test the solution. Therefore, 4S established such solution center. There is not any sales person in the center. There is only expert and technical staff. First of all, we understand the customer’s problem. We are making feasibility on it. We define the potential needs. We talk about the possible solutions. We never talk about products. Products can be tested and investigated on different trademarks in this solution center.”
Akyılmaz told that solution center services are free of charge and they do not consider the solution center as a sales tool. He mentioned that it is a voluntary project of 4S.
Public trends; virtualization, business continuity and business technologies
Akyılmaz told that leading public trends are virtualization and business continuity. He added that public has required disaster recovery centers a lot recently, “We prefer business continuity concept instead of disaster recovery. There are some public institutions that have very serious applications. We hear about they are struggling with many problems. Due to these problems, corporates need business continuity more and more. One or two hours interruption in the strategic applications may cause very serious damages.”
Akyılmaz said that business technology is the other item that is demanded by the public sector. He talked about growing structures, server and network management with respect to manage big structures, tests for improving software quality up to code level. They are the other topics that are widely asked. Akyılmaz stated that they perform significant projects in the West and Middle East companies in Telecom and finance sectors. He said that they have accelerated foreign country item so that they can raise it in company turnover over 10%. Akyılmaz : “As 4S, our turnover is around 50 million dollar. Until today, foreign country share was 5-7%. Now we could increase it to 10% level in 2011.”
